BA, AdDip (MusPerf)
Adam’s musical background stems from a childhood immersed in his mother’s jazz collection. A particular interest in New Orleans piano eventually led him to look beyond jazz and explore the many different factes of funk. Currently, his influences snake through many different spheres, exemplified by groups as diverse as Sun Ra, Medeski Martin and Wood, Prince, Dr John, Danny Elfman, and Thelonious Monk.
Having completed a film degree in Queensland in 1999, Adam returned home to Melbourne and studied jazz under Steve Sedergreen. Just after receiving his Advanced Diploma of Music Performance in 2004, Adam released his 2005 debut album Transmogrify. A showcase for Adam’s compositions and lyrics, Transmogrify deftly blends groove based jazz with strikingly modern styles. As a long-term collaborator with Henry Manetta, Adam has been an integral part of Henry’s band The Trip, and has featured on the last two albums Bijou Box (2004), and the new album Sexjazz (2009). In addition to leading his own jazz trio, Adam keeps busy gigging at home and interstate with Henry Manetta and the Trip, Glasfrosch, The Jane Austen Argument, and Neon Bogart.
