Ade Vincent (BMus, MMus, L.Mus.A)

General Details

MMus, BMus (Hons.), L.Mus.A (Distinction)

Ade Vincent is a performer, songwriter, composer and teacher. He writes and performs of music with theatrical pop band The Tiger & Me, writes contemporary classical music for the concert hall, and music for screen.

Ade has a vast amount of experience in music education, teaching a broad range of styles and skills in various formats. He lectures and tutors in composition at The University of Melbourne, teaches composition at The VCA and at Scotch College, gives workshops to high school students on songwriting and teaches the piano, recorder, guitar, composition and music theory privately.

His private teaching experience has seen him prepare VCE students for AMEB exams, teach adult students some chords to their favourite songs, and everything in between – the approach is largely dictated by what the student hopes to get out of lessons.

Rather than rigidly employ a universal syllabus or default set of textbooks, emphasis is placed on tailoring a teaching approach that best suits the student’s musical goals. For example, when starting with a young beginner, care is taken to provide a solid foundation on which to build, with an emphasis on the development of aural skills and technique. By the same token if an adult student is simply wishing to learn the chords of some of their favourite songs and develop enough musical ability for their own recreation, then this is exactly what is done. Also at the forefront is awakening and fostering the student’s love of music, with lessons and practice designed to be a source of fun rather than a chore.

He teaches from his studio in Preston and offers tuition for students of any standard wishing to learn in a relaxed, friendly environment. Lessons are $70 for one hour or $35 for half an hour.

He has completed Master of Music (Composition) and Bachelor of Music (Hons.) degrees at The University of Melbourne. He started his music career as a recorder player, and has an L.Mus.A with distinction. He wanted to front a band so took up singing in his twenties and started The Tiger & Me.

Due to commitments with touring and lecturing Ade currently has limited space for private students. At the time of updating (Jan 2014) there is space for more students. For more details on private teaching or expressions of interest please contact Ade through his website or at
