Bachelor of Music with Honours (ANU 2011)
At my home studio I teach all aspects of trumpet technique, general musicianship, music theory, aural training, composition and improvisation.
I completed honours studies in music in 2011, studying trumpet, jazz and composition at the ANU with Miroslav Bukovsky.
While living in Canberra I worked as a freelance trumpet player, teacher and music organiser. Through my association with the Canberra International Music Festival I worked as a concert producer, arranger and orchestral musician. As president of the Loft Jazz Association I worked to bring many leading Australian and international jazz musicians to Canberra.
My most recent creative project is a quartet with leading Sydney and Canberra musicians, Steve Barry, Alex Boneham and Mark Sutton. A few excerpts from live recordings are online at https://soundcloud.com/alex-raupach and http://www.stevebarrymusic.com/.
I am passionate about giving students a clear and fun introduction to aural studies and jazz. In addition to my library of music resources, I have published my own method book for getting started in jazz through the music of Chet Baker. For advanced students, I have a large library of my own transcriptions of jazz players from Louis Armstrong to today, including several self-published transcription books.
