Anthony Simmonds studied at the Victorian College of the Arts, graduating with a Bachelor of Music majoring in Brass Improvisation. He is proficient on all Brass as well as saxophone, bass guitar, piano, and many more. For the two consecutive years of 1992-93, he was National Champion of Champions for Bass Trombone and Euphonium and has been surrounded by music all his life at home and through his church, The Salvation Army, playing in the band and leading and playing in the worship ensemble.
Whilst studying, he began performing with The Band of Gold- Big Band and founded his own jazz quintet, DNA Jazz. Since graduating, he has worked with The Victorian State Orchestra, the Jack Morris Big Band, the Morris/Ward Combo, the Westernport Big Band, various Brass Bands and co-founded The Footy Buskers, busking outside the MCG and the Etihad Stadium.
Anthony has performed with James Morrison, Gil Askey, Wilber Wilde, Dave Newdick, Russell Gilbert, Denise Drysdale, Greg Spence Eric Budd, Dave Hedges and Jack Morris. He has also performed at numerous Corporate Events including the Brownlow Medal Presentations and has played in the PLOS Musical Productions Pit Orchestra for their productions of Grease, Annie, Wizard of Oz and La Cage Aux Folles and most recently, Singing on the Rain for the Gold Coast Production Company.
For television, Anthony has appeared in the SBS AFL Documentary on Tiger Land, Channel 10’s Neighbours and various appearances for Channel 7’s Sunrise. He has also been involved in a number of CD recordings including Nine Wheel Drive- You don’t know me on Bb Trumpet and Trombone, various Brass Band compilations and most recently, his own The Footy Buskers – Down at the Dome.
Anthony currently plays with Surfers Paradise Brass, the Gold Coast Big Band ,the Gold Coast Philharmonic Orchestra, Swing Force Big Band and Funk Factory Big Band.
