Athena took up saxophone at the age of 10, beginning in primary school on the alto and baritone saxophones, before moving to high school symphonic and jazz bands. She has also performed in various chamber ensembles. Through her high school ensembles, Athena was given the opportunity to perform in various situations on the soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones, including the Ormiston College production of Crazy For You (2015). Upon graduation, she also received the College’s Music Award. In 2015 she received a distinction in AMEB grade 8 practical saxophone, and hopes to sit her Associate Diploma (AMusA) in early 2017.
Her love for music has driven her to participate in many music camps and programs over the years, such as the Southern Cross Soloist music schools and Griffith Conservatorium’s State Honours Ensemble Program. Currently undertaking a Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Honours) at the University of Queensland, she hopes to continue to pursue music alongside other studies in future years with a goal to impart the enthusiasm and love that she has to others in a fun and educational manner. Athena has kept her passion alive through performances with community orchestras such as the Redland Sinfonia and Kelvin Grove Wind Orchestra, as well as through teaching via private saxophone tuition.
Lessons with Athena are held either at her home in Wellington Point, or at your home for an extra $5 traveling charge in the specified locations.
