I am currently in my third year of study in a Bachelor of Music, Majoring in Classical Performance – Instrumental, on the trumpet at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). I play mainly in orchestras internally and externally of WAAPA. I aim to pass my learning experiences and ideals onto my students.
I began playing the trumpet in 2006, in Year 5 at Wesley College, under the tutelage of Mark Underwood, a prominent commercial trumpet player in Perth and Australia. At Wesley, Mark taught me how to play in a range of styles, but particularly commercial/big band, and also taught me how to play with conviction and bravery, something I aim to pass onto my students.
I am currently learning under Brent Grapes, the principal trumpet of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra (and also a former student of Mark Underwood). He has taught me the importance of fundamentals and relaxation in order to achieve near perfection on the trumpet. I also aim to teach these ideals.
