Blake Bowden is one of the most exciting young tenors and actors to hit Australian stages in decades.
In winning the prestigious 2011 ANZ Trustees Rob Guest Endowment prize, he fought off hundreds of the nations most gifted professional singers in the star-studded gala held at Her Majesty’s Theatre in Melbourne; the competition designed to find the most outstanding artist on the brink of stardom. This enabled Blake to travel to New York to work privately with the very best theatre makers that Mecca of theatre has to offer.
2011 also saw Blake touring Australia in Eamon Flack’s acclaimed production of A Midsummer Nights Dream, playing the role of Lysander, earning great reviews as principal artist in the international tour of The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber and topping off the year by being invited as a solo artist to perform for the Crown Prince and Princess of Denmark at the charity gala Starry Starry Night.
In 2010 Blake appeared in the Australian tour of West Side Story for The Ambassador Group playing the role of Snowboy and performing the lead roles of Tony and Riff regularly. Also appearing as a soloist in Stuart Maunder’s tribute concert series The Sound of Rodgers.
Other music theatre credits include: original cast member of Dirty Dancing Australian and New Zealand tours for Jacobsen Entertainment, The Boy From Oz Arena Tour with Hugh Jackman for Ben Gannon/Robert Fox and the TML production of Jekyll And Hyde.
On stage Blake has played the roles of Jamie in the The Last Five Years for SUDS, Abdul in Louis Nowra’s Beatrice, Corey Matthews in Debra Oswald’s Skate for ATYP and Meryl Tankard’s VX18504 for ATYP at Carriage Works. He was also a member of the vocal group ARYA whose concert performance highlights include Carols in the Domain 2008 and The Never Say Never Tour with Wendy Matthews and Ian Moss. Film and television credits include roles in The Wiggles Movie and Home and Away.
Blake is a proud graduate of The McDonald College of Performing Arts, Sydney and holds a B.A. from Sydney University.
Most recently Blake has been seen in the World Premiere of the Cat Stevens Musical Moonshadow, in which he created the role of Pat Matthew.
