Students become self-motivated as they experience success in mastering small steps, participating in group classes, and performing in studio recitals.
As the youngest in a large musical family, Christine began her formal musical training at age five when she started piano lessons. She was influenced by her two older sisters who played the violin, and was determined to also play. Finally, as an eight year old Christine started violin lessons, and took piano and violin simultaneously for a number of years. Pursuing violin as her primary instrument in high school, she was a two-time winner of the Orchestra of Southern Utah Concerto Competition and won Superior ratings at the Utah State Solo and Ensemble Competitions. She went on to study violin in Munich, Germany with Stephan Kirlpal during her senior year in high school as a Rotary International exchange student. During her early college years, Miss Dunaway was the concertmaster of the Southern Utah University Symphony for three years and attended Meadowmount School of Music, where she learned the viola. After moving to Seattle, she received a B.A. in violin performance from the University of Washington. Christine has since been teaching in the Seattle area and has been a faculty member of Music Center of the Northwest for over four years. Having completed several Suzuki teaching certifications, her specialty is teaching the Suzuki Method. She enjoy performing regularly with string quartets, rock bands, and with the Federal Way Symphony.
Miss Dunaway’s students have enjoyed many successes and musical experiences. Some have held positions such as concert master and section leader in these organisations. Her high school students have successfully auditioned for highly competitive state-wide orchestras and competitions, including the Washington All-State Orchestra and Washington State Solo and Ensemble Competition.
