Developmental Music Therapy refers to Music Therapy techniques aimed specifically at an individuals’ development. Music Therapy is a worldwide allied health profession and is the planned use of music to promote health and wellbeing. Specific techniques and interventions are applied to address the needs and goals of clients. Interventions include song-writing, song-singing, instrument playing, improvisation, music and movement and music relaxation. Music Therapists use music primarily for achieving non-musical goals, as opposed to music educators who specialise in students’ acquisition of musical skills and knowledge.
