Jazz and contemporary guitar.
Duncan is an experienced guitar and improvisation teacher. He is a graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music where he studied jazz performance and jazz pedagogy. Duncan works in both jazz and contemporary music and draws on this broad background to create effective and fascinating programs for his students. He is a member of the teaching faculty at Jazz Workshop Australia, Australia’s foremost independent jazz music academy.
Duncan has studied jazz under Steve Brien, Matt McMahon, David Theak, Guy Strazz, Dale Barlow, Craig Scott, and Bill Motzing. He leads his own quartet as well as working as an in demand freelance guitarist. Duncan has performed with some of Sydney’s leading Jazz artists such as Gavin Ahearn, Ken Allars, Eden Ottignon, Steve Barry, and Luke Sweeting.
Through his work with ‘Sketch the rhyme‘ (a jazzy hip hop band with live illustration), Duncan has performed with Australia’s who’s who of hip hop including members of the The Herd, Hermitude, Thundamentals, Daily Meds, True Vibe Nation, the Tounge, and Rapaport. Duncan’s work as guitarist for ‘Idea Idea‘ saw him weave his playing seamlessly between vocalist Lanie Lane’s sultry sounds of a bygone era and producer MOR’s cutting edge electronic beats. Duncan has performed at festivals across Australia and his recordings have received airplay on JJJ, FBI and 2SER.
Available for guitar lessons in the JWA St Leonards studio on Wednesdays.
