BMus Viola and Pedagogy, AmusA Violin, AmusA Viola with Distinction
I am a freelance Violist and Violinist based in Brisbane. During my school years I achieved my AmusA in Violin and shortly after her AmusA with Distinction in Viola. I followed my love of music to study at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music where for my Bachelor Degree I majored in both Performance and Pedagogy for Violin and for Viola. This helped me to develop my skills and passion for performing and teaching. I am currently completing my Masters of Music Studies in Viola Performance at the Conservatorium.
After studying pedagogy at the Queensland Conservatorium, I believe in tailoring the learning experience to suit the needs of the student, and the need for me as a teacher to be constantly informed and proactive to learn about new approaches and research.
My aim is to empower students of all ages and stages. I believe string quartet and chamber ensemble experience to be a vital part of a musician’s training. Orchestral experience is also integral to aspiring musicians and a big source of inspiration. Opportunities to explore new music, celtic music and improvisation are also essential to create well-rounded and free thinking musicians.
Physical freedom is also vital for performing and practicing string instruments, with great success I have explored possibilities for this through the Feldenkrais Method and continue to look into this avenue.
As a teacher I aim to inspire students, to keep them aiming for new possibilities and for them to have the joy of music making.
It is wonderful to share my performance experiences with my students. I have been a member of many orchestras and ensembles including: Queensland Youth Symphony, QCGU New Music Ensemble, Serenade String Quartet, Australian Youth Orchestra National Music Camp, Queensland Pops Orchestra, Australian International Symphony Orchestra Institute, and the Australian Festival of Chamber Music Advanced Winterschool.
