Etienne Bizjak – Violin teacher
Coming from a family of musicians, Etienne Bizjak is a graduate of two Music Academies in Belgium. He studied at the Academy of Mont-sur-Marchienne under Danielle Gourmeur, and the Dilsen-Stokkem Academy under Michel Peaters. He studied jazz violin with Françoise Derissen and is particularly active in the world of gypsy jazz. He has been the violinist for the Voleurs de Poules, a very successful band who performed at the Django Festival at Liberchies in Belgium 2011.
He lived three years in New Zealand, he continues exploring the music world with Fever Swing, a young and ambitious trio who play many gigs around town, including a residency at The French Corner – Pastis (corner of Nelson St and Victoria St West). He plays regularly with VoxNova, a Gypsy and Latin band, and also plays with the Blue Caviar Jazz Band at Auckland Jazz Club Frankies. His latest musical venture is The French Touch NZ, a duo he started with guitarist and singer Victor Billon. They play lively covers of pop songs such as Daft Punk’s ‘Get Lucky’ and ‘Sweet Dreams’ by the Eurythmics.

He has four years’ experience teaching violin to children and adult beginners. Before coming to New Zealand in 2012, he taught for a year at a private music school called Lyre D’orthée, in Belgium, teaching adults, and children five years and older. He enjoys teaching improvisation, and has his own teaching methods which are tailored to each student’s unique way of learning.
