Garo Tanzi began playing drums at age 12 and in 2005 was apart of the Western Australian Youth Jazz All-Star Band and in the same year won “Best Drummer” award at the High School Big Band competition. In 2007, he was accepted into the prestigious Western Academy of Performing Arts and has been under the professional guidance of Chris Tarr, Ben Vanderwal and Danny Susnjar. In his relatively young musical career, he has played with some of Australia’s finest musicians such as Jamie Oehlers, Grant Windsor, Troy Roberts, Dane Alderson, Freddy Grigson, Graham Wood just to name a few. He has also had the honour of playing with international players of the highest order such as New York recording artist and renowned tutor, George Garzone, NYC based Saxophonist Jacam Manricks, Dianna Krall’s guitarist, Anthony Wilson along with New York saxophonist Jon Gordon. He has performed all over Perth with his own groups and as a sideman. In June 2008 he performed in Paris’s Jazz Club with French Jazz Artists and in 2009 performed in Berlin at the B-Flat Jazz Club. He is currently in his 3rd year of study at the conservatorium and continues to perform regularly around Perth including Perth’s premier Jazz club, The Ellington.
