Harmonica Academy was created by Dr Tony Eyers.
Tony was born in Australia and began playing harmonica in the 1970’s, inspired by Jim Fitting while studying at Yale University. He returned to Australia in the 1980’s, and became a well known blues player. In the 1990’s he returned to bluegrass, a style he played initially while at Yale. From this time he has developed a new harmonica style, based on the fiddle tunes in bluegrass and Irish music. His CD “Black Mountain Harmonica”, which showcases these traditional tunes, has been well received by harmonica players worldwide. The music sounds like this
Tony has been an invited presenter at the SPAH harmonica convention in the US, and will be a featured performer at the 2008 Asia-Pacific Harmonica festival in Hangzhou, China. He also plays recorder in a professional baroque ensemble in Sydney.
Tony is the founder of the Chinese Harmonica University site, www.kouqin.com.cn (kouqin in the Chinese pinyin word for harmonica). This site contains lessons by Tony, translated into Mandarin, and much harmonica information and music. This site has become extremely popular, and is one of the busiest harmonica teaching sites in the world.
Tony has a PhD, a Bachelor of Science and a Diploma in Education. He has more than 20 years experience designing educational programs.
