Music Theory/Song Writing
I have been learning music since the ripe young age of 5 years old
I was brought up on the classical piano, playing it all throughout my schooling life, blazing through my ANZCA examinations, and afterwards decided it was time to expand my horizon’s a little. I picked up the drumsticks and the guitar while I was in middle school and quickly realised that all of that theory I learnt while playing piano was quite handy in my experiments with these other instruments. And it was then after picking up those instruments that I realised I had a lifelong gift here, and it wasn’t too long afterwards that I wanted to start passing that gift on to other people.
I’ve played in numerous bands, on numerous instruments. It was at a local church that I started to develop myself in other styles of piano, playing the keyboard and eventually getting into synthesisers.
As well as teaching students how to play music, I’m a big believer in teaching students to understand music. In that, whether it’s drums, guitar or piano, I like to teach students not just how to play by themselves, but how to play with others, how to use their musical abilities creatively, and how to use the great gift that they are developing.
I have been a Caloundra local my whole life, spending 14 years as a student of Caloundra Christian College, and realising that 14 years definitely wasn’t enough, I’m pleased to set up residence here again, this time as a teacher of the Caloundra Music Academy rather than a student.
I specialise in teaching Rock and Jazz styles for all instruments. I also put a heavy focus on developing the musical ear, along with the reading and playing of music.
