I am a violinist and teacher with a wide range of experience that includes the Suzuki method and the Trinity Guildhall examination system. As a player I have a keen interest in orchestral and chamber playing as well as a background in folk and bluegrass fiddle styles.
Currently based in Melbourne, Hilary Hayes holds a Bachelor of music with first class Honours from the University of Auckland, New Zealand. Individual competition successes include winning the 2014 Graduation Gala Concerto Competition, placing 2nd in the 2011/2012 National Concerto Competition and winning the PACANZ National Young Performer of the Year Award in 2009.
Also in 2009, she was the winner of the Pettman/Royal Overseas League Arts International Scholarship for a New Zealand Chamber Ensemble with the Leonari Trio. The group were fortunate enough to be selected as the first ensemble to take part in the London masterclasses in 2010. In 2012, the trio completed a concert tour as part of the encompass series of Chamber Music New Zealand.
Hilary has been a contract player in OPUS Chamber Orchestra, the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.
