Master Coach David Jaanz shares a few secrets on his unique approach, Emotion Centred Singing: the method creating the new generation of stars today from the ground up.
“ECS is a phenomenon that works and creates stars, and will continue to create stars. We will keep doing it year after year.
How? Because many singing schools simply do scale after scale, which at Jaanz we call, ‘outer singer coaching’. More often than not, the results are singers that are generic, emotionally shallow and cannot stand out. Our success attests to the power of ECS and our focus on the ‘outer singer’ as well as the ‘inner singer’.
How can a singer expect to compete with Beyoncé, Usher or U2 and get the record deals, simply by ‘copying’ and being ‘technically correct’?
ECS reinforces solid technique, but in a way that is unique to the individual and that preserves uniqueness. ECS is not a ‘one way’ approach. It does not take out of a voice, the ‘rawness’ and ‘edge’ that can be too easily trained out of a singer in the pursuit of ‘correctness’.
The pursuit of ECS is not ‘correctness, but ‘greatness’; the ‘greatness’ found in the ‘lesser’, in the individual’s ‘natural game’, where the unique artist can emerge. This is what Emotion Centred Singing is all about.”
