Jon Smeathers is a Tasmanian based saxophonist and electronic, sound artist. Jon has performed across Australia with ensembles such as the Australian Art Orchestra, Allan Browne’s ‘Two Turks and a Wasp’, the Phonetic Ensemble, and many of his own solo projects. Jon is currently studying a Bachelor of Fine Arts at UTAS and runs an experimental record label, Ivory Tower Records.
Jon currently works as a freelance recording and mixing engineer collaborating with local Australian bands and experimental artists. Credits include, Heilbron/Butler/G’Froerer, like peach and silhouette (recording, mixing & mastering), Shards, Best New Reissue (recording, mixing & mastering), Footsoldiers, Melpomene (mastering) and the Phonetic Orchestra with Jim Denley (recording & mixing). Jon has also worked as a sound designer, composer and mixing engineer for Brisbane based art house film company Little Red Balloon Productions recently finishing their latest short feature film, Gentleman and in 2014 scored, Fell.
