Study piano with one of Melbourne’s most accomplished jazz performers. FIRST LESSON FREE!!
I am recognised as one of Australia’s most accomplished and inventive jazz pianists and composers. I was the 2013 winner of the prestigious National Jazz Award and was recognised as the Young Australian Jazz Artist of the Year at the 2014 Jazz Bell Awards. I am in the final year of a PhD Candidature (music performance) at Monash University and hold a Bachelor of Music (honours) from the Queensland Conservatorium, where I graduated as the highest achieving student of 2010.
I can help you or your child build strong fundamentals in technique, theory and aural skills and acquire a sensitivity to the nuances of musical style. My approach emphasises the connectedness between theory, aural skills, and the process of improvising, learning repertoire and performing. I have a strong interest in classical, jazz and contemporary styles and can customise lessons to suite each student’s musical interests and abilities. I aim to identify a student’s strengths and weaknesses and develop a program of technical work and repertoire that will encourage the most accelerated musical development.
I am also seeking advanced students who are interested in developing their ability to improvise and compose in jazz and contemporary styles. I can assist with the analysis of recordings, transcription, developing a knowledge of harmony and idiomatic melodic and rhythmic devices.
