Joseph graduated in music at the Chinese University of Hong Kong with First Honour and the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester UK with PPRNCM in trombone performance, the highest performance diploma awarded by the college. He performs as a free-lance soloist as well as orchestral player. He has performed with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Orchestra. In Melbourne, he is a sought after trombone player. He undertook post-graduate studies at the University of Melbourne in 2004 and graudated with a Master of Music degree in Trombone Performance.
Apart from being a trombone player, Joseph is an experienced band conductor. His experience encompasses primary and secondary schools, youth bands, university bands and community bands. His bands have won prizes and excellent comments in inter-school music festivals and competitions. He is also a very keen educator. He was the conductor of the University Wind Ensemble at the University of Melbourne from 2005-2007. At present he is the conductor of the Moorabbin City Brass; Head of Brass at Mount Waverley Secondary College; brass tutor at Melbourne Youth Music Council and at Camberwell Girls Grammar School. Joseph is keen on community service, he was the co-founder of the Hong Kong Festival Wind Orchestra and the Hong Kong Young Musicians Wind Orchestra (HKYMWO), until 2003, he was the chairman of the HKYMWO.
