Kim Lawson – musician
I have been working in Sydney as a professional musician, with over 17 years experience as a multi-instrumentalist (primarily saxophone, clarinet and flute), bandleader, composer, conductor and instrumental tutor. My teaching experience includes conducting and tutoring in a range of musical settings in both primary and high schools. These include individual lessons, small ensembles, concert bands, stage bands, high school stage bands and sectional workshops in band camps.
Outside of teaching I am a well established professional saxophonist, performing regularly with some of Sydney’s most prominent musicians. My experience and knowledge of music started in the form of classical saxophone, completing all the classical grades on the saxophone. In 2005 I graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music under the teachings of some of the most distinguished musicians in Australian jazz. Cole Lachnan, Mark Walton, Dale Barlow, Craig Scott, Mike Knock, Darryl Pratt and Judy Bailey, just to name a few. In 2008 I spent time in New York, where I had private lessons with George Garzone, David Binney and Donny McCaslin.
