Bmus (Honours), DipEd (Double Music)
I am a passionate and dedicated musician/teacher who enjoys imparting knowledge and engaging students creative side. I aim to tailor all my lessons to the students needs and interests, which I find is a more engaging approach as opposed to working out of method books. I graduated from Monash University in 2014 with an Honours degree in Music Performance (Improvisation) and am currently completing a Diploma of Education at ACU. My primary instruments are the saxophone and clarinet however I also have vast experience teaching piano which was my first instrument.
I enjoy teaching all levels from complete beginner through to advanced and am very familiar with the AMEB syllabus and VCE music performance unit, which I also tutor. Jazz and improvisation are my main interest personally although in regards to teaching I enjoy pursuing any interest the student has. I have experience teaching classical repertoire and a variety of styles including, pop, RnB, rock, soul and funk. I have completed AMEB exams including 8th grade on saxophone and 7th grade on piano.
I can offer lessons focusing on fundamental instrument technique, developing a personal tone/touch on your instrument, selected repertoire, AMEB practical and theory exams, jazz improvisation, aural and theory training, sight-reading and any other styles or interests the student may have.
I mainly teach within my local area of Northcote but also teach in Essendon, Melton and Gisborne, which I travel to regularly.
