So, you’re looking for a piano teacher. Yes, I know it’s not easy…how are you supposed to pick the right one among so many? It’s possible I might be just another one in a ocean of piano teachers. But maybe…just maybe, I might be the right one for you. On the off-chance you’re someone who likes to cut to the chase (AKA my sort of person!), how about instead of using this space to write about things like what degrees I have or my musical achievements, I just tell you in a straightforward way about what I do and how I do it so you can make an educated decision.
Let’s go then:
Although I have formal music education, my method is very different from your everyday conservatorium-style piano tuition. I teach by ear…no music sheets, no sight reading. If you wanted to be a concert pianist, I could teach you all of that but to be honest, I don’t enjoy it. If that’s what you’re after, you’d probably be better off learning from someone with a more orthodox approach. But if you want to learn cool things like jazz, blues, pop or song writing, improvisation, harmonisation, chords, etc and you want to learn fast, I’m the right teacher for you.
When it comes to playing piano by ear, my teaching method is really great for people who are truly interested in learning what is going on in the background as opposed to just memorising some finger pattern or chord shapes.
If you’re a curious person, who loves learning new stuff and finding out the logic behind what you do (and wants to do it using the right techniques), I’m the right teacher for you.
My method is designed for adults (16yo and over).
If twinkle twinkle little star is not in your ipod playlist, I don’t see why I should bore you to death teaching you to play it. Believe it or not, there are other beginner level songs that might actually be in your playlist already and we can use them instead.
Unlike the usual trend, I won’t teach you using any of the standard techniques designed for teaching children. I will always use tools that will keep you interested. Tools that will be stimulating for an adult.
I also understand that like any adult, you probably have a busy life, so the learning pace is set by you, not me. When it comes to practicing, I know you’ll do what you can, whenever you can and if you can’t for whatever reason, no dramas, we’ll practice together in class.
If you’re still not sure, book a lesson to find out. The first one is FREE, no commitments, no catch.
Why I do that? Because I really, really love teaching. And I wouldn’t want to teach someone who thinks my teaching style is not the right one for them. It defeats the purpose. There’s no reason why you should have to pay for us to discover if we’re right for each other.
If you do think my method is not the right one for you after your free lesson, I’d be more than happy to help you finding someone who I believe would suit your needs better.
I hope I have helped your decision making process and I look forward to hearing from you soon!
