BMus(Hons), MTeach(Sec), LMusA
I have recently moved to Melbourne having previously lived and worked in Armidale (regional NSW) and Sydney. Teaching since 1998, I have taught violin and viola to students from beginners to tertiary level and from four-year-olds to adults. I have taught in my home studio as well as in several schools, including the New England Girls’s School, Armidale; The Armidale School; The Armidale Waldorf School; Our Lady of Mercy College, Parramatta; Meriden School, Strathfield; and The Kings’ School, Parramatta. I have successfully prepared students for AMEB, Trinity and HSC exams. In 2016, one of my students placed second in the NSW HSC Music 1 course and I have had several students nominated for the NSW Encore concert following outstanding performances in their HSC exams.
As a teacher, I love being part of students’ increasing skill and confidence with their instrument. Exposing students to the wonderful world of music is very special. Of course it is not easy to learn the violin or viola and the students who make the best progress are those who commit to regular practice sessions. I certainly encourage students to participate in group music making activities such as orchestras, choirs and other ensembles. This exposes students to important ensemble skills as well as being pleasurable and inspiring. Gaining experience in performance is also very important and I encourage students to perform as much as possible.
I aim to provide a nurturing but also challenging environment for my students.
