Bachelor of Music Performance (Victorian College of the Arts)
Maria is a drum teacher with over 10 years of experience, teaching a range of levels from beginner to advanced. In 2013, she completed a Bachelor of Music Performance at The Victorian College of the Arts, in which she undertook private lessons with some of Australia’s most prestigious drummers; including Simon Barker, Graham Morgan, Ronny Ferella and Dave Beck. Maria currently performs extensively around Melbourne with various ensembles, including performances at festivals such as Falls Festival, Women’s Jazz Festival, Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Tilde New Music Festival, Sugar Mountain Festival, Mona Foma and Dark Mofo. In 2016, Maria played drums for the ‘Her Sound Her Story’ concert, in which she performed with worldwide acclaimed Australian female artists such as Julia Stone, Ella Hooper, Montaigne, Airling, Mama Kin and Mojo Juju.
In May 2015, she toured Europe with Melbourne-based guitarist Adam Halliwell. The duo performed at venues and festivals in Germany, France and Italy, including a collaboration with the Sicilian Improvisers Orchestra.
Maria toured Australia in August 2015 with her alternative rock band JAALA , supporting the grammy nominated neo-soul Melbourne band ‘Hiatus Kaiyote’ for their Australian tour. Since then, the band has supported ‘The Internet’, ‘Methyl Ethel’, and ‘King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard’. The bands 2nd album ‘Junior Spirit’ is set for release in May 2017.
