Bachelor of Music Performance (Victorian College of the Arts)
Maria is a drum teacher with over 10 years of experience, teaching a range of levels from beginner to advanced. In 2013, she completed a Bachelor of Music Performance at The Victorian College of the Arts, in which she undertook private lessons with some of Australia’s most prestigious drummers; including Simon Barker, Graham Morgan, Ronny Ferella and Dave Beck.
Maria currently performs extensively around Melbourne with various ensembles, such as Jaala, Great Rack, Josh Kelly Trio, On Diamond, Maria Moles & Adam Halliwell and Francis Plagne. She also performs a solo show using electronics and drum kit, in which she has played shows supporting Chris Corsano (Bjork, Evan Parker) and Clever Austin (Hiatus Kiayote). In June 2017 Maria performed a solo live score to Ben Christensen’s 1922 silent film ‘Haxan’ as part of Dark Mofo (TAS).
In 2017, Maria performed at Melba Hall as part of ‘Stand By Your Woman’, a showcase starring a 14-piece all female backing band which featured guest vocalists Harry Angus (The Cat Empire), Kate Miller Hiedke, Jen Cloher, Tim Rogers and more renowned Australian artists.
Maria’s duo with guitarist Adam Halliwell has toured Japan, Italy, Germany and France. The duo has collaborated with Sicilian Improvisers Orchestra and Yoshitake Expe (JAPAN), along with members of ‘Boredoms’.
Other artists/bands Maria has collaborated with include Harry Angus (The Cat Empire), Krakatau, Tanzer, Lucas Abela, Lloyd Honeybrook, Ogopogo, Ella Hooper, Kate Ceberano, Montaigne and Vera Blue.
It is because of this wide range of experience that makes Maria a great determined and passionate teacher.
