TCL Keyboards - Grade 8, LCME Popular Music Theory - Grade 8, TCL Ensemble - Advanced Certificate, RSL Electric Guitar - Grade 6
I’m a 2nd Year BMus student studying at UQ on exchange from the UK. My primary study focus is jazz piano, which I can teach to an intermediate level (though I unfortunately don’t have access to a piano I can use for teaching – I’m happy to travel around the St Lucia area if needed).
I also teach acoustic guitar to people of all playing abilities and learning goals, with the option to specialise in contemporary fingerstyle. I’ve studied with Jon Gomm, Mike Dawes, Don Ross and a few more familiar names within the genre, and can show you how they get their distinctive multi-instrumental sound from just one guitar.
Besides these, I can also teach music theory (classical or jazz) to an intermediate-advanced level, as well as musicianship/aural skills training. Whilst I aim to incorporate elements of these into instrumental lessons where appropriate, taking some time out to study them on their own can benefit your playing a immensely. I offer the choice to split lessons between any combination of instrumental tuition, music theory and general musicianship – depending on your needs – or to simply tack an extra half hour or so on to the end of an instrumental lesson at a reduced rate ($15/half hour). You can also take them together as an all-in-one lesson if you don’t require instrumental tuition or are already receiving it elsewhere.
