Olav Goud

General Details

Olav started his playing career at the age of nine when he joined his local band The Dronten & District Pipe Band in Holland. Competing at Grade 4 Olav quickly became an established member of the Drum Corps, winning several Dutch Championships. Olav also competed in the solo competitions throughout Europe and immediately became a regular prize winner.

In 1992 Olav moved to Brussels, Belgium where he joined one of the leading pipe bands, the Antwerp & District Pipe Band. After competing with the band for one season, at the age of 16, Olav became the leading drummer, the youngest in mainland Europe at the time. Under Olav’s leadership the band won numerous Dutch and Belgian titles and was regularly placed during competitions in England and Scotland. Olav continued his solo career, winning Danish, German, Dutch and Belgian titles along the way. In 1996 Olav moved back to Holland where he joined the Beatrix Pipe Band. Here he played for several seasons, continuing his winning streak with several Dutch, Belgian and British titles.

In 1998 Olav was presented with the opportunity to fulfil his lifelong dream to play in Grade 1 in Scotland when he was approached by Leading Drummer Arthur Cook to join his drum corps at the famous Polkemmet Pipe Band. After finishing his education Olav moved to Glasgow and quickly settled in the corps as a valued member. Olav continued his solo competition career and was regularly placed at the Lothian & Borders branch competitions.

In 2000 Olav, along with the rest of the Polkemmet Drum Corps, moved to the Lothian & Border Police Pipe Band in Edinburgh. In their first year Olav and the band competed in Grade 2. During this season the band competed 16 times with the drum corps and won the Drumming on 15 occasions. This included the “Grand Slam” – winning the drumming at all the Major Championships!

In 2005 Olav joined the Strathclyde Police Pipe Band in Glasgow under the leadership of Leading Drummer, Eric Ward. With the band and drum corps he won numerous “Major Championships”. Olav continued his progression in his solo drumming career making the World Solo Drumming Final in 2005, 2006 and 2007.

In 2009 Olav moved to the world renowned Boghall & Bathgate Caledonia Pipe Band, under the leadership of Leading Drummer Gordon Brown. Alongside Gordon, Olav teaches the Boghall & Bathgate Caledonia Juvenile Pipe Band.

In April 2011 Olav will be moving to Adelaide, South Australia where he will take up the position of Leading Drummer at the City of Adelaide Pipe Band – Grade 2.
