Bachelor of Music
Paddy Gordon is a Melbourne-based pianist, improviser and
composer. He completed his B.Mus in 2012, and has five years piano teaching experience. In addition to his studies in improvisation and jazz he has been playing classical piano for more than 20 years.
He was taught primarily by renowned pianist and composer Gemma Turvey, and has also studied with musicians such as Andrea Keller, Jex Saarelaht and Adrian Sherriff. Paddy’s philosophy of music education entails a belief in a holistic
approach: one that nurtures not only piano technique but a range of areas of musicianship.
Paddy is passionate about improvisation and the expressive
possibilities of the piano. With his unique combination of classical technique and improvisational nous he is equally adept at guiding students through AMEB examinations as he is at helping them unlock their creativity.
Paddy is co-founder of the critically acclaimed improvising piano duo “Footy”, who recently released their second album. He has also composed for film and collaborated with artists such as Michelle Mantsio and Danae Valenza on multidisciplinary projects. Paddy performs at diverse venues across Australia including MONA, The Forum Theatre, and The Australian Centre for Contemporary Art.
