I am a singer, songwriter and trumpeter. I write for and perform with Brisbane-based afro-reggae group Kooii, and Jazz-reggae group Ruby Blue. I also perform in smaller groups singing and playing guitar and playing trumpet in jazz and ensembles that mix styles from around the globe, including Tibet2Timbuk2 featuring Tibetan singer, Tenzin Cheogyl.
When I play and practice I often come back to focusing on my breathing and my body movement and what I’m feeling and sensing. I feel that dancing and breathing, however small or large the actions are, are unified with the music that you make. Listening and feeling is vital.
I received extensive training in classical trumpet and music theory as a student. I have always experimented with composition since I started playing music. I have an affinity for reggae, african music and jazz. I am very interested in helping people develop their ability to create music and hear their distinct self in it.
