I am a pianist and composer with a Bachelor of Music from the University of Houston and a diploma in music composition from the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris. I offer piano, music theory, and composition lessons to all ages, from beginner to advanced. My piano lessons are a bit different than the average piano lesson in that I am very particular about the repertoire the student is involved in, not only to improve the student’s musicianship but also to expand the student’s knowledge from the standard repertoire piano students are usually taught and to keep the student interested and updated in classical music. My repertoire includes beautiful and interesting new classical music (like the recent piano and chamber music of Arvo Pärt, Erkki-Sven Tüür, Lepo Sumera) as well as selected composers and pieces from past classical music. In addition to all of this I am insistent upon involving the student in performing with at least one or two other musicians. I feel that a large downfall in typical piano instruction is that the student is often not exposed enough to ensemble performance. Not only is it fun and keeps piano from always being a solo activity, but it also improves the pianist’s technique and overall musicianship.
