Bachelor of Music (Jazz Performance) - Sydney Conservatorium
While completing a Bachelor of Music of the Sydney Conservatorium of music, Rob was fortunate enough to study under the direction of Andrew Dickeson and other notable jazz luminaries such as Craig Scott, Steve Brien, Gordon Rytmeister and Judy Bailey. Travelling to New York early in his career, Rob gained further knowledge and skills from legendary teacher and mentor Michael Carvin as well as New York heavyweights Kenny Washington, Nasheet Waits, Ferenc Nemeth and Mark Guiliana.
Rob’s training and professional experience in the music industry for the past 15 years has made him an incredibly well rounded musician with the ability to adapt to any musical situation and style effortlessly. Currently based in Sydney, Rob has been fortunate enough to perform and tour with Twin Fires (formerly known as OXBLVD), Garner Sloan (USA), Karen Tennison (USA), Jordan C. Thomas, Young Cairo, Big Smoky, Billy Fox, The Casey Golden Trio, Black Bird Hum, The Botanics, Michelle Martinez, James Morrison, Bobby Shew, Axle Whitehead, Danielle Blakey, Peter Northcote, The Australian Youth All Star Big Band and countless others. For the past 5 years, he has also been the bandleader and drummer for the award winning Sydney-based covers band ‘The Usual Suspects’.
His expertise has given him the opportunity to perform at prestigious venues in Australia such as the The Opera House, Sydney Entertainment Centre, The Metro, The Factory Theatre, The Basement, The Forum (Melbourne), Bennett’s Lane (Melbourne), The Hifi (Brisbane), The Gov (Adelaide), Amplifier Capitol (Perth) and around the world; The Viper Room (LA), Hotel Cafe (LA), Rockwood Music Hall (New York), North Sea Jazz Festival (Rotterdam), Montreux Jazz Festival (Switzerland), Monterey Jazz Festival (California).
He has made an array of TV appearances, with recording credits including the theme song for Australian television soap ‘Home and Away’, as well as countless musical productions, recording sessions and live performances.
His teaching experience includes being the drum tutor on staff at Loreto Normanhurst, working as a tutor at Billy Hydes/Mona Vale Music, countless school band camps and group workshops as well as private tuition at home for 10+ years
