B.Music Theatre, Grade 7 Guild keyboard
Piano lessons available in your own home
My formal qualification is a Bachelor of Music Theatre with my professional work involving working as a musical director, vocal coach and accompanist. I undertake professional development regularly through various workshops.
I am a seasoned performer and have had varied roles in the performing arts. These include lead roles in musicals, singing both lead and backing vocals in cover bands, jazz combos and tribute bands.
I believe it is important as a teacher to be performing so students know they are gaining the right skills for their own performances.
My teaching experience includes contemporary singing, keyboard, piano and recorder in both private and group settings. Styles covered are contemporary, music theatre and jazz. My students have successfully undergone exams through AMEB and the Australian Guild of Music Studies, as well as performances in local and interstate Eisteddfods.
I have recently relocated to the Gold Coast. Until Term 1, 2017 I was teaching contemporary voice and piano at Shelford Girls’ Grammar and Kilvington Grammar School, both in Melbourne.
For the last three years at Shelford Girls Grammar, I have lead the senior A Cappella group to the School National finals of the AUSACA: Australian A Cappella Championship Awards. I also directed an Inter Harmony A Cappella group. Both of these groups are by audition only.
As part of Year 10 music at Shelford I had been a guest lecturer taking a select group of students and running either a vocal ensemble or duo. Also teaching group recorder in the Junior Music Department.
I also teach the AMEB Singing for Leisure, Musical Theatre, and Piano for Leisure syllabus.
Students and their parents often comment on my teaching work ethic, of working professionally while putting students at ease in the lesson. I get along and communicate well with children and parents. I am well organised and self-motivated, punctual, reliable and present well.
Previously I had my own music studio on the Gold Coast with 70 students and taught private lessons at St Stephen’s College & A B Paterson College.
From 2003-2005 in upstate New York, USA I gained invaluable teaching experience with children ages 6-18 at French Woods Festival summer camp.
