Gillian established The Music Practice in February 1997 after a long career in music education at secondary and tertiary levels. She studied clarinet at the Royal Academy of Music (London) and later graduated as a secondary teacher from Sydney Teachers’ College. She established an innovative music department at Melrose High School, Canberra and was subsequently appointed Senior Lecturer in Curriculum Studies (Music) at the Canberra C.A.E and afterwards Head of the Department of Music Education Studies at the Canberra School of Music. Gillian was national Co-ordinator of Special Programs for The Australian Bicentennial Authority and the first Chief Executive Officer of the Bicentennial Youth Foundation Inc.
