Timothy Frahn commenced study of the trumpet in 1996. Involvement in primary and secondary school ensembles, extensive music education and competitions led him to further studies in brass performance.
He is currently completing a Bachelor of Music, majoring in Classical Performance (Trumpet) at the Elder Conservatorium, The University of Adelaide. He has occupied Principal Trumpet in the Adelaide Youth Orchestra, Trumpet 1 in both Elder Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra and Elder Conservatorium Wind Orchestra, Principal Trumpet of the Norwood Symphony Orchestra, Solo Cornet in Tanunda Town Band, Trumpet 1 in Unley Concert Band, whilst also involved in many chamber ensembles both at the Conservatorium and in the community. In August of 2009, he was awarded 1st Prize in the Adelaide Eisteddfod Concerto Competition, receiving a High Distinction for the performance of the J.N.Hummel Trumpet Concerto. In June of 2010, he was awarded 1st Prize Open Trumpet in the 2010 SABA Solo Championships. 2011 saw participation in the Australian Youth Orchestra programs, travelling to Adelaide, Melbourne, Tasmania and Sydney. He also performed with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra as part of the 2011 AYO TSO Fellowship. In April 2011, he participated in the Australian National Academy of Music’s inaugural Brass ’11 Program, working with the Australian Brass Quintet.
He now divides his time between teaching, performing casually with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and Adelaide Wind Orchestra, and conducting various ensembles.
