Bachelor of Music Performance (Honours)- University of Melbourne
I am a professional saxophonist, woodwind doubler and music teacher, with over 15 years of playing experience and 5 years of teaching experience. I have recently completed my Honours year (achieving First Class Honours) at VCA, after having successfully completed the Bachelor degree. I am involved in several ensembles in the Melbourne improvised music scene, and regularly perform original music.
I teach beginner and intermediate students of all ages. Rather than adopting a one-size-fits-all approach, my teaching style involves assessing the students’ strengths, weaknesses and needs, and prescribing appropriate and helpful exercises and practise techniques to ensure the most rapid and well-rounded development. I cover the fundamentals of instrumental technique, music theory, aural training, sight reading and notation, and much more.
I’m also looking for more advanced students looking for lessons in Improvisation, with a focus on the jazz language and building a vocabulary. This involves transcription, learning tunes, jazz theory, melodic development, more complicated rhythmic devices, and other improvisational techniques.
I teach out of my house in Preston. Travel arrangements negotiable.
I charge $30 for a half hour lesson (and $50 for a full hour).
I hold a current Working With Children Check, and VIT Permission To Teach.
