Batchellor of Music (Jazz Arranging and Composition)
Tony is an accomplished guitarist with more than 9 years of teaching experience. He is young and enthusiastic and has experience teaching music to all ages.
In 2013 Tony completed his bachelor year in jazz arranging at CPIT Jazz School in Christchurch. He is an experienced composer and arranger, and has an in depth knowledge of jazz theory.
In 2012, Tony became a teacher at the International School of Music, during which time he received specialist training in children’s piano teaching with Ros Thrift, a music education expert in Sydney Australia. For two years, Tony worked as a children’s music expert, and taught piano and music theory to children aged 2 to 12.
In 2014, Tony attended study at The University of Auckland, adding to his degree with jazz performance and music education.
Tony has a flexible approach to teaching and is aware of differing learning styles between students. It is Tony’s ambition to make music theory approachable and fun for all students. He is aware of the difficulty guitarists can face when learning to read music, but hopes to make it easy for all students. Lessons will be structured differently depending on the student’s ability level and what they want to achieve.
