Ysk was born in Tokyo in 1983. Currently based in Melbourne, he performs nationally and internationally, using guitar as a realm of improvisations and compositions. Ysk also produces beats for vocalists. Ysk trains under Xango Capoeira and is a hobby boxer. As a pioneering member of Dutch Impro Academy, Ysk’s collaborators include the internationally established mavericks such as Han Bennink (Holland), Tristan Honsinger (Germany), Misha Mengelberg (Holland), Jim Denley (NSW), Wadada Leo Smith (USA), Damo Suzuki (Germany), Cor Fuhler (Holland), Tobias Delius (Germany), Shuichi Chino (Japan), Tichawona Mashawa (Zimbabwe), John Rodgers (QLD), Robbie Avenaim (VIC), Dwiki Dharmawan (Indonesia), Wukir Suryadi (Indonesia) and more. Ysk’s past performances include numerous domestic and international tours in Australia, Asia and Europe 2007 – 2014, Java Jazz Festival (Jakarta), Zomer Fietztour Jazz Festival (Groningen), BimHuis (Amsterdam), the NOW now Festival (NSW), Queensland Music Festival (QLD), Woodford Folk Festival (QLD), Wangarratta Festival of Jazz (VIC), Brisbane Jazz Festival (QLD), OFF: OtherFilm Festival (QLD), Brisbane International Film Festival (QLD), Shannon Noll Queensland Tour (QLD), Channel V DeTour Bus (NSW/QLD), the Island Vibe Festival (QLD) and more. He was a finalist in Australian National Jazz Award (Guitar) in 2007. Ysk has composed soundtracks for films and theatre productions such as Attract/Repel by Melbourne Town Players (VIC), Squatterpunk directed by Khavn (Philippines) and more. Ysk attained Bachelor of Music in 2006.
