Bachelor of Music (University of Melbourne)
Hi, I am from Malaysia and I speak both English and Mandarin. I can understand Cantonese but will not be able to speak it that fluently. Same with Hokkien.
I started having music lessons when I was 4 through the Yamaha School of Music, and as of now I have the qualifications of a Yamaha Teacher’s Grade of Grade 4. I started the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music (ABRSM) syllabus when I was 7 and completed Grade 8 when I was 15.
I participated in the Yamaha Electone Festival for several years under the Ensemble section and our group have achieved the Outstanding Award each time.
I like to sing along when I teach, and I encourage my students to do so as it helps with improving a musician’s hearing. I find that transposing comes naturally if you sing along habitually, so that’s a bonus!
