Alicia Groves is a young classical vocalist from rural Victoria. She completed her undergraduate degree in music studies at WAAPA (the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts) in early 2015, and is now studying a Graduate Diploma in Psychology at Monash University.
Alicia’s musical journey began in singing with local choirs in her hometown of Wangaratta, where she was recognised for her singing ability and began private lessons. Since than, she has participated as both a chorus member and soloist for many choral and musical performances.
In 2013 Alicia sang as a soprano in the chorus for both Dido and Aeneas by Purcell and Elijah by Mendelssohn with WAAPA. She also sang in her first Gilbert and Sullivan production with the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Western Australia, Ruddigore. In 2014 Alicia sang in the chorus of The Fairy Queen by Purcell and A Midsummer Nights Dream by Britten with WAAPA and Acis and Galatea with I Voci choir. Aside from choral singing, Alicia has sung solo on various occasions for her vocal studies, including a performance at BMW Edge Theatre at Federation Square in Melbourne, and performances at the Wangaratta Carols by Candlelight in 2013 and 2015.
Alicia is particularly interested in the fields of Performance Psychology and Music Therapy and hopes that through her current studies she will be able to aid other young performers, like herself, reach their optimum potential.
