About me
Originally from sunny Queensland, Amanda is an Australian-born Chinese pianist currently based in Melbourne. As a teacher, she endeavours to not only equip her students with the understanding and skills for smart and effective piano practice, but to also inspire creative expression and a lifelong love of music. She is dedicated, passionate, and supportive and wants to help her students realise their true potential. No matter if they are preparing for AMEB exams or just playing for leisure, she aims to make learning the piano fun, challenging, and rewarding.
Amanda completed her Bachelor of Music with first-class honours (2018) at the University of Queensland as a student of the late Dr Max Olding. She was also awarded the Music Honours Prize and a University Medal for outstanding achievement upon graduating. In 2021, Amanda completed her training at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) with Timothy Young and was given the prize for ‘Most Outstanding Program’ for her final recital. Last year, she was awarded the ANAM alumni creative residency grant which enabled her to develop further as both a curator and performer. Currently, Amanda is working as a soloist, collaborative pianist and teacher.
When not at the piano, she stays active through Chinese Lion Dancing. She loves the celebratory nature of the art form and seeing the joy and excitement it brings to people of all ages.
