Andrew Byrne is a classically trained pianist and composer with a Doctor of Music Arts degree from Columbia University, New York. He now offers piano lessons for Melbourne Piano School students at his studio in North Melbourne.

With decades of experience as a pianist, higher degrees in music, and years of experience as a piano teacher, Dr Byrne is happy to accept students of all ages and levels of experience whether preparing for examinations, performances or simply for fun.

After studying music performance and theory at La Trobe University and as a private student of acclaimed Australian pianist Michael Kieran Harvey, Dr Byrne moved to New York on a Fulbright Scholarship to complete a doctorate at Columbia University. There he was mentored by distinguished piano pedagogue Nils Østbye.

His lessons concentrate on developing technique and musicality and empowering students in their musical development. He aims to make lessons as fun and engaging as possible while assisting students in reaching their highest musical level. Often he includes some theory and history (even at a beginner's level) in the lessons to deepen students' understanding and appreciation of the music they are playing.

He is also available to teach music theory, music history and composition.
