Andrew Congues

Hi,

I work as a producer, engineer, songwriter and drummer, and I currently play drums for the cinematic soul outfit Surprise Chef.

I've been teaching drums for over 10 years, both in schools and out of my home studio, since completing my Bachelor of Music Performance. Alongside teaching, I've been fortunate to tour the world with some of Australia's top artists, and I bring that real-world playing experience straight into my lessons.

My students range widely in age, background and skill level, but my approach stays the same: short, focused coaching courses built around measurable results. I specialise in helping beginner to intermediate drummers take the next real step up in their playing, with time, flow, groove, technique, improvisation and musicianship at the core of everything I teach.

I offer three course tracks:

5-week Beginner Drum Intro
8 -week Beginner to Intermediate Leap

My drumming vocabulary is grounded in groove and serving the song, shaped by a musician's mindset and a drive for improvisation, writing and production. I currently head up Pocket Studios, where I run a teaching, recording and production studio. I teach out of my home studio in Brunswick, and also offer online lessons via Zoom.

In addition to my Bachelor and Advanced Diploma in Music, I hold a current Working With Children's Check (WWC).
