I'm Andrew Fong, a multi-instrumentalist that has been teaching clarinet, saxophone and piano for the past 8 years. I first learnt saxophone while I was living in Townsville and spent countless years playing in Big Bands. I started teaching in Townsville where I grew up, then in Melbourne where I studied a Bachelor of Music at Melbourne University and then at the Australian National Academy of Music with the Professional Performance Program. (If you'd like to find out more about my qualifications please feel free to navigate to my bio on this website.)
During my time in Melbourne I was lucky enough to study with inspiring pedagogues such as Paul Dean (Former Queensland Symphony Orchestra Principal and current head of winds at Queensland Conservatorium) and David Griffiths (prominent chamber musician and clarinet lecturer at Melbourne University) during my time at university and David Thomas (Principal of Melbourne Symphony Orchestra) during my time at ANAM. This is on top of many incredible lessons with some of what I consider to be the best clarinettists in the world such as Michael Collins, Thorsten Johanns, Dimitri Ashkenazy, Phillip Arkinstall and Justin Beere. My time at ANAM also saw my ABC radio sax debut with Lisa Munroe and the piece 'Worker's Union'.
I've been lucky to have had performance opportunities with the Australian World Orchestra, Australian Youth Orchestra in an international Tour (2019), Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, Victorian Opera and will continue performing with Queensland Symphony Orchestra and Southern Cross Soloists during my time in Brisbane.
In my move to Brisbane to live with my partner I was sad to have to leave my former students behind. Now that I'm in Brisbane I would love to have the opportunity to pass on all of the knowledge, excitement and experience that music and playing saxophone has offered me throughout my career.
I'm based in Kangaroo Point but will also be spending a lot of time in Spring Hill. I'm happy to travel to teach throughout Brisbane and can be flexible with lesson times even on a weekly basis. I offer a free half hour trial lesson for all levels for continuing lessons so feel free to contact me on 0423277464 or andrewfng@gmail.com
Congratulations for making it to the end of this wall of text and I hope to hear from you soon!
Andrew Fong
