I make learning a fun, creative musical experience while ensuring high levels of musicianship at all times. With a thorough knowledge of both the AMEB classical syllabus and the ABRSM jazz syllabus and extensive practical experience as a contemporary performer my students are ensured of getting an excellent musical education. I teach from my purpose built music studio at my home in Marrickville. In 2015 I was awarded a distinction for being one of the top 5 outstanding Woodwind teachers in NSW.
My students range in age from 10 - 85 years old and from complete beginners to advanced HSC and Amus students. I have a number of adult learners at different levels of expertise.
Since graduating in 1993 from the University of New England I have been a successful instrumental sax, clarinet and flute teacher while also building an extensive performance career.
I have successfully taught students from 1st grade to AMUS in the AMEB system, have enjoyed success with students in the ABRSM Jazz course, which involves a substantial amount of improvisation, as well as tutoring HSC students in Music 1 and 2. I have also taught and examined Certificate of Music courses at Tertiary level. I taught woodwind at Newington College for nearly 20 years. I have worked successfully in the Catholic Schools Amadeus program.
I currently perform in Jazz, Swing, Rock, Funk and African Bands. I have performed and recorded in a variety of settings and toured interstate and overseas.
Currently lead my own Swing /Soul band The Aston Martinis and Jazz band Bluelounge. I also play with Soul jazz band Major Zulu, African bands Gervais Koffi and Afro Moses, Soul band Cajun Moon, Big band Mortal Blow and work as a freelance musician.
Appeared on TV (The Bachelorette, Midday Show, Mornings with Kerrie Anne, ABC Arts Show) with The Aston Martinis, Gervais Koffi and the African Diaspora and Shirley Purvis and her Public Affair (Lounge Cabaret Show).
