I teach fiddle (violin) and have done for 5 years in Sydney at the Irish Gaelic Club. I've recently moved to Melbourne and would love to start up in this trendy town.
My lessons are based around getting enjoyment from playing, whether that's loving its musicality, the thrill of the challenge, or just loving to play with another musician.
Irish music is very social and mostly upbeat, because it was traditionally used for dance rhythms. It is taught aurally (by ear) from one musician to another, which enables group lessons to be treated like a masterclass.
I have experience in teaching both children and adults from beginner to advanced in classical violin and through grading methods and found that a lot of people do not find this structure beneficial and, as a result, stop playing. My aim is to reverse this trend by showing everyone how fun playing music is.
My teaching rates are as follows:
$60 - private lesson
$40 - group lesson
Each session is for at least one hour (sometimes longer if time permits). Lessons are held at my residence in Fairfield. If your circumstances make that difficult we can work something out. I have a spare fiddle if you would like to try out a lesson without buying one beforehand, but I would recommend getting your own so you can play in your own time.
Don't hesitate to contact, I will be more than happy to help with any enquiry about the lessons or general fiddle trivia!
