Music History and Theory
Styles: Theory of Music, Musicianship
Knowledge of musical styles, their history and the way they are written and composed gives you important background which influences the way you play a piece of music.
Music theory lessons introduce you to the ways composers work, beginning with music reading skills and then teaching you to compose rhythms, melodies and harmonies. They also link these skills to compositions by famous classical, jazz and contemporary composers.
If you are interested in doing grade exams, please note that the Australian Music Examinations Board has made it compulsory to pass theory exams before attempting higher levels in performance.
