Dr Annabella Redman
In Vienna I performed roles including: Blondchen (Abduction form the Seraglio), Susanna (Marriage of Figaro), Rosina (Il Barbiere di Seviglia), Zerlina (Don Giovanni) and many more. She toured throughout Europe, Asia and America and the United Arab Emirates singing opera, operetta and musical. I also sang in numerous concerts in all the major concert houses in Vienna and was chosen by the city of Vienna to open the Mozart Bi-Centenary celebrations in Tokyo.
My interest in teaching intensified whilst in Vienna and I a voice lecturer at the School of Performing Arts in Vienna, a tertiary training institute specialising in Musical theatre. All of my students are still in full-time employment across Europe in Musical Theatre. I gave classical master classes at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin and was in charge of the voice department at the Adriatic Summer Festival in Bonefro, Italy.
Upon returning to Australia, I performed with Oz Opera on tour in Australia premiering the role of Laura in Midnight. I taught at Newcastle University up to Post-graduate level, covering styles from Classical to Musical. In 2011 I completed my Doctorate covering the comparison of technical development of vocal styles used in music theatre. I taught Musical Theatre performance and technique at NSW TAFE. I am an examiner for the AMEB NSW, adjudicates regularly at Eisteddfods and runs a busy private studio.
Past students in Australia range from recent premiers at Royal Opera House, Covent Garden to a current backing singer for Justin Timberlake. Two of my students have recently been awarded the Opera Australia Regional Scholarship with students chosen from across all of regional Australia. All students auditioning for training at WAAPA, Sydney Conservatorium and VCA have all been accepted. Lately I was distinguished as one of the top five singing teachers in NSW by the Australian Music Examinations Board over the last 4 years. In 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2023 I was awarded Most Outstanding Teacher in NSW by the Australian Music Examinations Board NSW. Due to covid, only top 5 was awarded 2021-2022, which I was also placed into.
