composition mentorship and tutoring by A/Prof Yitzhak Yedid

Styles Classical composition, theory, Jazz composition, contemporary popular music
Skill Level Beginner to advanced

My name is Yitzhak Yedid, I'm an international recognised composer and pianist (please find my C.V down below).

I provide online and in person lessons for students who wish to learn composition and theory (that includes fundamental techniques of classical composition, harmony and voice leading). I also prepare students to AMEB exams, school exams and auditions.

I’ve been teaching at tertiary level since 2006; units I thought include Classical Composition, Theory, Music Materials, Orchestration, Harmony, Music Analysis, small and large Ensemble, Ear Training, Jazz Theory, and Performance Study (composition and piano).

In Australia I have taught at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University (QCGU), Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), University of Western Australian (UWA), Monash University (Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music), and overseas at the Jerusalem Conservatorium. Also, I have had teaching engagements at ANU School of Music, Sydney Conservatorium and Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM).

Yitzhak Yedid has been acclaimed as one of the world’s leading composers of third stream music. A master pianist and shrewd composer, he has multiple awards to his name. In 2009 he received the Israeli Landau Prize for contribution to Jazz, and in 2006 he was awarded the prestigious Israeli Prime Minister’s Prize for Classical Composers. He also won first prize at the International Oud Festival in Israel for his composition “Oud Bass Piano Trio”.
Inspired by literature, philosophy, art and landscapes, Yedid’s compositions form a narrative of pictures, textures and colors. His music combines classical genres with free modern improvisation and Eastern and Jewish music styles, breaking out of defined frameworks to produce a unique and original sound
Yitzhak Yedid has performed at Jordan Hall in Boston and Carnegie Hall in NewYork. He has performed his compositions with his Yedid Ensemble in festivals and venues across Europe, Canada, the USA, Asia and Africa. His music has received hundreds of reviews in the international media.
“Yedid integrated specific stylistic influences into a personal created unity. The manner in which he describes folkloristic influences and melancholic specific themes can remind of Bela Bartok; improvisatory float of
hovering à la Keith Jarret”. Åke Holmquist, Norra Skåne (Sweden)

Yedid has released 12 international albums by European labels: Challenge Records International, Sony,-btl-, Muse, MCI, and
Kaleidos.

Since 2007 Yedid is resident of Australia. He is lecturing at Griffith University, Brisbane Conservatorium.
