I offer singing lessons, aural training, music theory and songwriting.
A graduate of the Bachelor of Music Performance at Melbourne Polytechnic with a major in Contemporary Voice. I regularly perform around Melbourne, and have over 10 years of performing experience as a vocalist and instrumentalist (AMEB Grade 7 Violin, amongst others).
My teaching method is centered on a holistic approach, as well as being drawn from my background in Theatre.
As our body is our instrument, I advocate vocal health and posture, breathing techniques and projection.
To accommodate a range of learning styles, lessons are tailored to the individual, where the content is adapted to suit the student's needs.
To help my student develop their own unique sound, I focus on expanding their skill set and particularly their vocabulary of percussive sounds, wordless singing, tonal colours, scatting, improvisation, rhythm and grooves.
Being a vocalist, I believe that singers should receive the same musical foundation and training as other instrumentalists. This brings confidence to their creative expression, and empowers the singer to speak the same language as their instrumental counterparts, making rehearsals and performances more engaging, interactive and fun. This is achieved through aural training and theory.
I also encourage and guide my students to compose original music, lyrics, poetry, and to arrange preexisting works.
Lessons not only include vocal technique, but also encompass performance training: musicality, phrasing, stage presence, connection to and delivery of lyrics, as well as methods to manage anxiety and nerves.
I can also compliment lessons with:
- Audition and exam preparation
- Studio recording preparation
- Microphone technique training
I teach from my studio in Heidelberg, and am happy to travel to surrounding areas, if you have a piano.
I charge $35 for half and hour and $55 for an hour lesson, plus a travel fee of $10.
