Austin Buckett is a practicing composer/producer, piano tutor and currently lectures the BMus (Composition) course at the Australian Institute of Music, also tutoring piano at UNSW. He’s currently taking bookings for private lessons in his Camperdown studio. Relaxed and professional setting for teaching & learning with Kawai piano for lessons, large table and white board for theory or composition work, fender rhodes, synthesizers and high quality studio monitors for production work.
Austin has worked extensively nationally and internationally as a composer, producer and musician including a recent world premiere on the Sydney Town Hall Grand Organ commissioned by the City of Sydney, and recent new works in progress for MONA FOMA Festival. His work is has been broadcast on national and international radio and TV including on ABC TV, SWR German National Radio, ABC Classic FM, Radio National and FBi.
Austin has a first class honours degree from the ANU School of Music, receiving several awards and scholarships throughout study including the Lena Karmel Honours Scholarship, and the Winnifred Burston Piano Performance Prize twice in in 2008 and 2010. He’s also completed Australia Council supported mentorships in Berlin and New York with Peter Ablinger and Marina Rosenfled. Austin’s work Aisles was a finalist for APRA AMCOS Art Music Awards ‘Instrumental Work of the Year’ 2017. His work has been written about in the Age, the Sydney Morning Herald, the Wire (UK), Ad Hoc (US), Vice, and the Guardian.
Austin is passionate about regularly teaching privately from his studio and finds it very rewarding to encourage and guide the development of young musicians, of which he has experience in both pre-tertiary and university settings.
